I am glad that I am following a 1/2 marathon training plan so I can feel better about "resting" today. Normally after having a hard workout day, if I'm sore, I would just tell myself to stop being a wimp, suck it up, and workout some more. Seeing scheduled rest days gives me permission to do just that...rest... because my muscles need it. Oh boy are they sore. Right now if my thighs could talk they would say,
"This is bull*%$#,
hell to the no,
oh-no-you-din't!!!"
I did a LOT of stretching today. Also, I kept myself moving most of the day because if I sit for too long and try to walk my legs say, "Think again!" It did have a nice, hot bath in my jacuzzi tub during nap time and that was fab-u-lous! I highly recommend long baths as any kind of reward for oneself. That along with a nice gossip mag and I am set! Tomorrow it's back to training and school for me. Question of the day: What do you do to ease sore muscles?

GO YOU for listening to your body enough to not only give it the rest it needs BUT KNOW that it's a gift & not slacking.
how the thighs this morning?
Miz.
(oh and the easing the soreness? I just wait it out :) verrrrry technical, I know)
I like your story of starting to run! I had a weight problem back in college after freshmen year, then lost about 25 pounds to put me lower than ideal weight, and started me to be anal about weight loss and working out - always on my mind! When your kids were born how much time did you take off? I loovvee my job and I want to take off 6 weeks (due in Feb) yet I'm struggling with this and feel guilty(sometimes) - but then again, my husband isn't taking off 6 weeks, so I feel like I shouldn't - any tips?
Good job. Being disciplined with the rest and recovery is just as important as being disciplined with your training and diet parts. Way to go!
For sore muscles I personally like stretching and icing. I used to have a hot tub, and that worked well too! But I think the best think for muscles is rest when they are sore.
In re your comment on my blog, Your right, we are very much alike. It's not resisting the treats that is hard for me, it's once I have one bite, it's hard to stop that aways gets me!
I give myself somewhat of a massage and hit the tub. And I whine a lot. ; )
When I did half marathon training, I'd do a half hour yoga dvd after a long workout. Stretched every muscle.
Roll out those legs with a foam roller baby!! Hurts like a mo-foer but it does ya some good ;-)
jealous of the jacuzzi tub! For sore muscles I take motrin if really bad and a day off. I know, not the best advice :)
